This neighborhood, developed in 1874, takes its name from the Carlos M. Cole, a pivotal figure in the history of Denver Public Schools, recognized for his instrumental role in establishing junior high schools in the city.

The flag features the majestic entrance of the colonial revival-style Cole Junior High School, which has since evolved into the Cole Arts and Sciences Academy.
